Location: Detroit, MI 48202
Job Duration: 13 Weeks (Contract)
Shift: Evening/Night | 5x8-Hour Shifts
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 3:00 PM – 11:30 PM
Hours per Week: 40
Interview: 30-minute MS Teams interview

Job Summary

The Pathologist Assistant provides services in Anatomic Pathology under the direction and supervision of a qualified Pathologist. This role supports surgical pathology and post-mortem examinations and assists with specimen preparation, dissection, documentation, and quality control.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform gross examination and dissection of surgical specimens, biopsies, and complex cases
  • \t
  • Select and submit tissue sections for microscopic examination (frozen and permanent sections)
  • \t
  • Accession specimens and ensure proper identification per surgical pathology policies
  • \t
  • Assist with resident training, technical instruction, and competency assessment
  • \t
  • Perform gross photography of specimens as required
  • \t
  • Support tumor procurement for biorepository and complete required documentation
  • \t
  • Assist with quality assurance and quality control activities
  • \t
  • Maintain instruments, equipment, refrigerators, and lab supplies
  • \t
  • Manage inventory and submit supply orders
  • \t
  • Perform autopsies, including examination, dissection, tissue submission, and documentation
  • \t
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Required Skills & Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of Pathologist Assistant experience

  • Strong knowledge of surgical pathology procedures

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Willingness to teach and train others

  • Flexible, self-directed, and detail-oriented

Education

    Required: Bachelor of Science degree from a regionally accredited college or university

Certifications & Licensure

  • Required: Completion of a NAACLS-accredited Pathologist Assistant program OR prior certification by the American Association of Pathologist's Assistants (AAPA)

  • Preferred: PA (ASCP) certification
