At Class 101 Ashburn, Va, we empower students and families with expert college planning guidance that simplifies the complex college admissions process. From test prep to essay coaching and financial aid counseling, we are dedicated to helping students achieve their college goals while reducing stress for families. Even if you don't meet all the requirements, we invite you to still apply. We believe that many things can be taught and learned, but honesty, integrity, compassion and empathy cannot. Much like the College Application Process, we take a holistic approach to who bring on our team.

As a 1099 Sat & Act Test Prep Instructor, you will be responsible for teaching both Sat and Act preparation classes using our established curriculum. You will work closely with students to help them master the content, develop test-taking strategies, and build confidence in their abilities. Your role will involve guiding students through each section of the tests (English, Math, Reading, Science, and optional Writing), addressing individual needs, and ensuring that they are well-prepared for test day.

Responsibilities include:

  • Deliver comprehensive instruction: Conduct engaging and interactive classes based on the provided curriculum, covering all sections of the Sat and Act (English, Math, Reading, Science, and optional Writing).
  • Teach test-taking strategies: Instruct students on key test-taking techniques, such as time management, pacing, process of elimination, and educated guessing, tailored to both the Sat and Act.
  • Provide personalized support: Adapt lessons to accommodate different learning styles and individual needs. Offer targeted assistance to help students improve specific areas of weakness and enhance their strengths.
  • Assess and track student progress: Use practice test results and diagnostic data to analyze student performance, identify trends, and provide personalized feedback. Adjust instruction based on individual student performance.
  • Motivate and build confidence: Create a positive and supportive learning environment that motivates students, reduces test anxiety, and encourages engagement and participation.
  • Incorporate data-driven instruction: Use diagnostic tools and practice test results to guide instruction and ensure continuous improvement in student performance.
  • Teach critical content areas:
    • English/Grammar: Cover grammar, punctuation, sentence structure, and rhetorical skills for both Sat and Act English/Language sections.
    • Math: Teach topics such as algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and data analysis, and provide problem-solving strategies specific to each test.
    • Reading: Help students develop reading comprehension strategies to quickly and accurately analyze passages for both Sat and Act.
    • Science (Act): Instruct students on interpreting data, graphs, and scientific reasoning for the Act Science section.
    • Writing (Optional): Guide students in crafting well-structured essays, including developing thesis statements and supporting arguments for both Sat and Act essay sections (if applicable).
  • Classroom management: Ensure that all classes run smoothly, start and end on time, and that students remain on track with the curriculum.
  • Help with test registration and logistics: Assist students with navigating Sat and Act registration, understanding deadlines, and managing any special accommodations.

Qualifications include:

  • Expert knowledge of Sat and Act: Deep understanding of the structure, content, and scoring of both the Sat and Act, including the differences in timing, question formats, and pacing.
  • Teaching or tutoring experience: At least 2 years of experience teaching or tutoring, with a proven track record of helping students improve their abilities.
  • Strong subject matter proficiency:
    • English/Grammar: Expertise in teaching grammar, punctuation, and writing.
    • Math: Proficiency in algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and data analysis for both Sat and Act.
    • Reading and Science: Ability to teach reading comprehension and scientific reasoning.
    • Optional Writing: Familiarity with the essay requirements and formats.
  • Effective communication skills: Ability to explain complex concepts clearly and tailor communication to students' skill levels.
  • Adaptability and personalization: Capability to adapt teaching strategies to fit the diverse learning styles and needs of students, offering individualized support when necessary.
  • Data-driven instruction: Experience in using diagnostic results and practice test data to inform instructional decisions and drive student improvement.
  • Motivational skills: Ability to inspire students to stay engaged, build confidence, and overcome challenges.
  • Tech-savvy: Comfortable using online platforms and tools for remote teaching, if applicable.

Requirements include:

  • Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree in counseling, education, or related field preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in teaching or tutoring students, high school level preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of the college admissions landscape, test preparation, and current testing paradigms and modalities.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, parents, and school administrators.
  • Experience working with diverse student populations, including first-generation and neurodivergent students.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to meet the needs of students and families.
  • Experience in college admissions counseling, academic advising, or working in a college admissions office is ideal, though not required.
