Job Description

Join GAAMHA as a Full-Time Recovery Coach!
At GAAMHA, we believe that recovery is a personal journey—and no one should have to walk it alone. As a Recovery Coach, you’ll offer support, mentorship, and encouragement to individuals navigating early recovery or seeking a path to wellness. Grounded in compassion and mutual respect, you’ll meet people where they are and walk beside them as they build lives rooted in purpose, connection, and strength.

Whether you're drawing from personal experience or professional training, your presence can help others find hope, healing, and the resources they need to thrive.

Your Role: Motivator, Guide, and Peer Partner
As a Recovery Coach (RC), you’ll be a trusted support for individuals at all stages of recovery. You’ll partner with participants to explore their goals, connect to critical services, and develop wellness plans that reflect their unique strengths and values. This full-time position, allows you the opportunity to make a real impact in the lives of others—one conversation, connection, and step at a time.

What You’ll Achieve
Support Recovery Through Connection and Trust
  • Meet participants in person at locations that feel safe and accessible—recovery centers, cafés, public spaces, and more.
  • Build authentic, supportive relationships grounded in shared experience and mutual respect.
  • Encourage participants to define their own goals and recovery pathway—honoring a “multiple pathways to recovery” philosophy.

Develop Plans That Reflect Individual Strengths

  • Collaborate with participants to create personalized wellness and recovery plans.
  • Help identify and strengthen roles in their lives—like parent, friend, employee, or student—that contribute to self-worth and identity.
  • Match participants with the resources and services they need, from housing and employment to mental health and community support.
Navigate Systems and Reduce Barriers
  • Offer consistent peer support as participants engage with complex systems, including healthcare, behavioral health, and legal services.
  • Ensure smooth referrals and follow-ups while empowering participants to take the lead in their recovery journey.
  • Provide transportation support when necessary and assist with navigating public resources.
Maintain Professional Standards and Accountability
  • Complete all participant-related documentation and reports accurately and on time.
  • Submit weekly timesheets, time accountability logs, and mileage documentation.
  • Respect all confidentiality guidelines and agency policies related to client privacy.
  • Attend required trainings, group supervisions (monthly), and individual supervisions (bi-monthly).
  • Represent GAAMHA in the community with professionalism, empathy, and integrity.
What Sets You Apart

Lived Experience and Empathy
You may be in recovery yourself and know firsthand how powerful peer support can be. (A minimum of two years of sustained recovery is required if applicable.)

Skills That Build Trust
  • Open-minded and nonjudgmental, especially in supporting multiple paths to recovery.
  • Strong listener with the ability to connect and relate without fixing or directing.
  • Organized and reliable—able to manage documentation and schedule independently.
Education & Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Completion of CCAR Recovery Coach Academy and Ethics training preferred—or equivalent peer recovery training approved by the MA Board of Substance Abuse Counselor Certification.
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and a mobile phone are required.
  • Must be able to pass a CORI background check.
What You Can Expect
  • A Mission-Driven Role – Make a real impact by helping people feel seen, heard, and supported.
  • Supportive Team Culture – Be part of a community that values lived experience and believes in recovery for everyone.
  • Growth Opportunities – Participate in ongoing training and expand your skills in the field of peer recovery support.
Who You’ll Support
You’ll report to the Recovery Coach Supervisor and work closely with GAAMHA’s peer and clinical teams to make sure every participant receives the care, support, and encouragement they need to move forward.

Ready to Walk Alongside Someone on Their Recovery Journey?
If you’re passionate about peer support, recovery advocacy, and meeting people where they are, we’d love to meet you. Join GAAMHA as a Recovery Coach and help others rediscover their strength, purpose, and community.
