Functions as part of the dialysis health care team in providing safe and effective dialysis therapy for patients under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse in accordance with organization policies, procedures, and training and in compliance with regulations set forth by the corporation, state, and federal agencies. Responsible for the setup and operation of hemodialysis machines. Assist in the maintenance of a safe and clean working environment. Supports the organization commitment to the Quality Enhancement Program (QEP) and CQI Activities, including those related to patient satisfaction and actively participates in process improvement activities that enhance the likelihood that patients will achieve the organization Quality Enhancement Goals (QEP).Principal duties include patient related education, treatment initiation and monitoring, vascular access evaluation and cannulation, administration of heparin, vital signs monitoring, documentation, and reporting changes in patient condition. Staff related duties include participation in recruitment, orientation, training, competency evaluations, and collaboration with clinical management to maintain quality standards. Education and communication responsibilities involve partnering with RN and IDT staff to educate personnel on water system integrity, environmental safety, and infection control practices. Maintenance and technical duties include cleaning and disinfecting equipment, preparing dialysis machines, and conducting safety checks. Record keeping involves accurate documentation of treatment data, lab specimen handling, and participation in Continuous Quality Improvement activities. Infection control duties include monitoring adherence to policies, reinforcing practices, and participating in education and audits. Transitional care unit responsibilities include managing new patient dialysis care, education, and coordination of treatment options.Physical demands include frequent standing, lifting up to 40 lbs with assistance, and working in a healthcare environment with exposure to infectious materials. Education requirements include a high school diploma or GED, PCT certification, and relevant state licensure. Experience preferred is at least five years in patient care in a hospital or related facility. Continued employment depends on successful completion of dialysis training and CPR certification.
